First Spring

Rocky Mountain NP | Colorado

I have a habit of hiking to my location without being completely present. On this particular day, I was finishing a hike and thinking about the images I had captured. As I came around a curve in the trail, I looked up and saw this young moose staring back at me. I was startled, not expecting the large animal to be there. As I backed away to find an alternate route, I snapped this image. I love how the eye of the moose perfectly peaks through the freshly budded aspen leaves. An image more of luck more than anything else, but one I am so happy to have captured and experienced. Photo © copyright by James Lally.
